La semana pasada estuvimos comentando qué es un japa mala y para qué se usa. Muchas preguntas surgen sobre este collar que usamos especialmente para meditar, y una de las más comunes es ¿Por qué los japa malas tienen 108 bolitas o cuentas?
Por supuesto como todo tiene una buena explicación, y esto no es producto del azar. En realidad hay muchas y variadas respuestas a esta pregunta. Cuando usamos un japa mala, simbólicamente nos conectamos con los ciclos cósmicos que rigen el universo: el collar representa la trayectoria del Sol ☼ y la Luna ☽ en el cielo.
Los yoguis dividen la eclíptica en 27 partes iguales o constelaciones llamadas Nakshatras, y cada uno de ellos en 4 sectores iguales llamados Padas o “pasos”, que marcan los 108 pasos que el Sol y la Luna recorren a través del cielo.Using a japa mala is a symbolic way to connect with the cosmic cycles that govern the universe: the necklace represents the ecliptic, the path of the sun ☼ and moon ☽ in the sky.

Resumiendo hasta aquí, los Yoguis hacen la división de 27 partes -constelaciones-, vendría a ser como nuestros signos zodiacales (aries, leo, virgo...) pero la versión hindú. Luego las dividen en 4 partes llamadas Padas.
En total suman 108 y completan este ciclo que recorren nuestro amado Sol y nuestra Lunita. Bien!
Ya sé que quizás todo esto suene algo complicado! Como decía antes todo tiene su por qué y el de las 108 cuentas del japa mala es muy profundo, además de amplio.

Ok let´s see what we have up to this point. Yogis make the division of 27 parts - constellations - would be like our zodiac signs, but this is the Hindu version. Then they divide them into 4 parts called Padas.
In total they are 108 and complete this cycle that run our beloved Sun and our Lunita. All right!
I know that maybe all this sounds complicated! As I said before everything has its reason and the one of the 108 beads of a japa mala is really deep.

Dentro del simbolismo, cada uno de
estos pasos o Padas está asociado con una fuerza, energía o
bendición especial, con la que teóricamente el recitador de mantras se alinea
al girar las cuentas del mala.

La cuenta Gurú representa a los solsticios de verano e
invierno. En esta foto de la derecha te la enseño, es la bolita adicional aparte de las 108 del collar. Suele ser un poco más grande que las del resto del collar, aunque no siempre es así!The Guru Bead represents the summer and winter solstices. En el microcosmos -nosotros mismos- se refleja el macrocosmos -el sistema solar-. Podríamos decir que hay 108 pasos entre la conciencia humana ordinaria y la luz divina en el centro de nuestro ser. Cada vez que recitamos un mantra y las cuentas del mala se deslizan entre los dedos, estamos dando un paso más hacia nuestro propio Sol Interior.

microcosm -ourselves- the macrocosm -the solar system-is reflected.
We could say that there are 108 steps between ordinary human consciousness and
divine light in the center of our being. Every time we recite a mantra and the
mala beads slip through our fingers, we are taking a step closer to our own
Interior Sun.

Ya ves, hay muchas visiones y reflexiones sobre las 108 cuentas del collar. Y seguro que hay más que estas que he expuesto pero creo que las que hemos comentado explican bastante bien el Misterio de este número. Este es sin duda un número mágico lleno de simbolismo.
